Writing Me

My writing habits may be very obscure to most people because of the conditions I put myself under. The first thing I always do when I'm about to start writing something is turn some kind of music on. Music helps me focus on anything for long periods of time. Because of my serious ADD and not being able to focus for a very long time, this seems to help a big amount. Also, depending on what I'm writing about, the kind of music changes for what mood I'm in. For example, during writing this I have on more of a heavier alternative rock type of music because it is pumping me up to write this as fast as I can so I can get my other homework done as well. However, when I'm writing serious papers and they have to be precise in grammar and the context and everything of the like, I like to listen to Beethoven and the classics from a long time ago. Despite being really good at focusing while listening to music, I cannot focus at all when hearing other people talk. This is why usually when I listen to music I have to have my ear buds in listening to it directly and nothing else. The best place for me to be doing this is actually when I'm out in public somewhere so I'm not distracted by the things in my room that would like to take priority over this. Examples would be TV, XBox, and food. Most people couldn't write while in public, but I just find it easier to do for some odd reason, especially if I'm outside because of the beautiful smells of the outdoors and the fresh air. Some people that have already heard of this obscurity of mine have told me how weird I am because of this way of writing, but I personally take being weird to be a good thing, especially when music is involved.

Vacations and stuff

Vacations are one universal fun time. They are times where you can actually attempt to rest and have fun for once. Every year during the summer, usually towards the end closer to school time, I go on a vacation with my dad, mom, sister, and brother. However, the destination is set to a different place every year. One year we drove all the way down to the tip of Florida, through Louisiana, and all the way back up to Illinois. That may not seem like too much to some people, but to me that is a very difficult task. Being 6'3" and crammed in the back seat with my brother and sister, there is barely any room to function properly. These things make our family vacations the way they are and always will be though. I have been to approximately 43 of the 50 states and Canada. Although I've never been to Mexico, I've always wanted to and plan to sometime. My favorite vacation would probably have to be the year that we flew up to New Jersey. The beaches along the east coast are amazing, unless you go too high then they get really cold. In New Jersey, we went to Atlantic City and walked along the board walk as well as swam in the ocean. Along the board walk they have so many different stores with all the nooks and crannies you could think of. It was there that we started my dad's sword collection. These swords are part of a kit called the Kit Rae swords. They are extremely cool and fun to play with when other people aren't around. As well as those, we got a set of 3 samurai swords with the engraved handles and everything.
Not to go too far off on a tangent but my family is the kind of family that loves to collect things. I already explained about the sword collection, but in addition to that my dad has a bunch of medieval weapons and the medieval times action figure collection from Target. My mom collects these barbies called Dolls of the World. She has every single one of them and all of them except for one have never been opened. She also has a collection of plates from when we travel. My dad also has a coin collection, in which he has coins dating back to the 1800's. I have 3 collections at home. One is a collection of frog things because I am kind of obsessed with frogs. I also have a collection of knives that I think look really cool. I have probably more than 30 already and just keep on adding. My third collection started when I was really young. It is a collection of Lego things. My favorite is also my most recent, the Taj Mahal. With over 5,000 pieces it took me the longest to make of maybe a day and a half. My brother collects pens and decks of cards from wherever we go on vacation. My sister collects random things and scatters them all across her room so you can hardly walk in there. My whole family has a collection of this really old set of plates and cups and the like. They are really awesome and I think some of them might have crystal in them possibly.
If you have any weird or awesome collections please share. I would be very interested to know what other people collect.

for commercial use only

The commercial I have chosen for this week's blog is a commercial for the NFL fantasy draft. My roommate and friends and I have been watching nonstop football over the last few days and this same commercial seems to come up pretty much every commercial break. It starts out with a quarterback starting a play with all the commotion and everything else going on. Then he starts the play and the running backs run and the wide receivers run to get open for the pass. The quarterback lets go of the ball and just from the motion it looks like the ball is going to go far. He lets it rip and the screen switches to just the ball in the air. The ball flies out of the stadium and way out in the open air. After that, the screen switches to a farmer in his barn with all the barn accessories and whatnot. You can see a glimpse of the football in the air coming straight towards the farmer. He sets down what he is holding and the ball falls right in his arms. Next, a kicker kicks a football and it also flies out of the stadium. At this point there are multiple balls in the open air all flying together. The screen switches and there are people catching the footballs left and right. A guy on a bike lets go of the handlebars and catches the ball, a woman drops her grocery bags and catches a football, people in the background are all catching footballs. Finally, a buy gets off a bus looking at his phone, looks up and catches a football right when he looks up. The screen goes down to the screen of his phone and it says something about the NFL fantasy football league.
I think this probably stays with me because of how ridiculous it really is that so many people would catch these balls perfectly, or that these balls have no way of going that far, or maybe just the fact that it was played so many times. Whatever the reasoning for me remembering it so well, it worked. So more props to the people who made the commercial. Thank you and have a pleasantly awesome week, weekend, and football Sunday.

Randomness

So I know all of you have been sick at least a few times in your lives. Most people get sick where they have the coughs, or a sore throat. I happen to not get sick so much, but I get these headaches that I'm surprised haven't killed me yet. Unfortunately, today happens to be one of those days. And, of course, today also happens to be my busiest day of the week. Today will not be one of the more fun days of my college experience for sure. As a child I had these headaches, so my parents took me to a specialist to see if there was a reason for all of these headaches. I ended up taking medicine for it, even though it didn't work. However, now the most likely culprit would have to be a caffeine withdrawal. I have been drinking soda for pretty much every day for the past couple years. Because of how this soda drinking isn't that good for me, I have been trying to get myself to not drink it so much, or every day at that. With not drinking soda, or having caffeine, comes tremendous headaches. If there is one thing I could recommend to all of you, even if you yourself are a soda lover like me, is that you shouldn't drink soda every day. Especially not a 44 ounce soda from a gas station like I did pretty much every day of my senior year in high school. If you get to my point of caffeine addiction, no amount of Tylenol or Ibuprofen will work to stop the pain in the head. Once you get to this point, you will want desperately to go back and won't be able to because of the pain. The only thing that will fix the pain is more caffeine, which is what you are trying not to do.
